Why I'm Running

My mother taught me lessons
I still carry today:
"How you treat people
matters,"
especially when times
are hard, and
"if you want better,
you build it."

Biography

Meet Whitney Echenique

I’m a working mom, small business owner, and transportation and logistics professional running to serve Georgia’s State House District 2.

Rooted in Hard Work

I was raised in rural Tennessee, the daughter of a logger and a factory worker. When my father passed away when I was ten and my mother’s factory job moved overseas, our family went from getting by to struggling almost overnight. It took time for her to find stable work again, and during that difficult season, programs like food assistance and Medicaid helped keep our household afloat and allowed my brother and me to focus on school.

My mother taught me lessons I still carry today: how you treat people matters, especially when times are hard, and if you want better, you build it.

For much of my life, I worked two, sometimes three, jobs at a time, sometimes out of necessity and sometimes out of ambition, always believing that hard work matters, but also knowing opportunity should be within reach for everyone.

Experience & Perspective

Education opened doors I never imagined. I studied in Sweden before completing my degrees in South Korea, where I stayed to teach English. Living abroad showed me how strong education systems, access to healthcare, and support for working families create long-term stability.

Today, my husband, a Venezuelan immigrant, and I are raising two children and running a small business in downtown Dalton. Navigating our legal system firsthand has shown me how important practical, fair policies are for working families.

Professionally, I work in transportation and logistics, bringing more than 15 years of experience solving complex problems and building partnerships that keep our economy moving. I’ve also been involved in professional baseball for more than two decades, a role that keeps me connected to families across our community and grounded in teamwork and shared pride.

Ready to Serve

My life has bridged rural and global, classroom and boardroom, ballpark and small business. Those experiences shape how I approach public service. I’m running to strengthen working families, expand educational and economic opportunities, and improve access to healthcare and clean water.

I want a future where our children and grandchildren grow up healthy, safe, and economically secure — proud to call Northwest Georgia home.

And where the seniors who built these communities can retire with dignity and security.

My Approach to Public Service

Public service should be simple: protect opportunity, uphold dignity, and make sure hard work still leads somewhere in Georgia. Government should respect personal freedom, protect individual rights, and focus on practical solutions that strengthen families and communities.

My faith guides my character and my commitment to serve others, but I firmly believe government must serve people of every belief and background equally. Leadership means integrity, accountability, and representing everyone in the district with fairness and respect.

The Plan

Priorities

Focused solutions for the people of Northwest Georgia. Ready to lead on day one.

01

Healthcare Access & Stability

Too many households in our state are one diagnosis away from financial crisis. People skip tests, delay treatment, or stretch medication because the cost feels overwhelming. Caregivers make impossible decisions about long-term care while trying to protect their household from collapse. Medical bills and coverage gaps ripple through entire families — affecting work, savings, retirement, and children’s stability. Healthcare is basic infrastructure. When parents are healthy, they can work. When children are healthy, they can thrive in school. When seniors are supported, families stay intact.

  • Expanding affordable coverage options for working families
  • Strengthening Medicaid access and reducing unnecessary delays
  • Supporting rural hospitals and community clinics
  • Expanding mental health and maternal healthcare access
  • Improving long-term care support for seniors and caregivers
02

Economic Opportunity & Strong Families

Families across our region are feeling the pressure of rising costs and economic uncertainty. Working households are balancing childcare, housing, healthcare, and long-term planning, while small businesses are trying to grow in an economy that feels increasingly difficult to navigate. A strong state economy should reward hard work and create real pathways to stability. That means lowering everyday costs and supporting wages that keep up with the cost of living, while making sure people have access to training, education, and clear systems that help them move forward. Immigration is part of this conversation. Georgia’s economy benefits when legal pathways are orderly, professional credentials are recognized, and state agencies operate efficiently.

  • Property tax relief for seniors and working families
  • Expanded childcare support and family tax credits
  • Supporting small businesses and reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens
  • Strengthening workforce training and credential recognition
  • Streamlining professional licensing and improving state agency coordination
  • Supporting policies that help working families earn stable, livable wages
03

Education & Safe Schools

Public schools are the foundation of long-term opportunity. Students should be able to focus on learning without fear, and teachers should feel supported in their classrooms.

  • Supporting public school funding and teacher retention
  • Expanding career and technical education
  • Strengthening school safety and emergency preparedness
  • Expanding access to school-based mental health services
  • Promoting responsible policies that keep children safe
04

Clean Water & Public Health

PFAS contamination has raised serious concerns about long-term health and environmental safety in our communities. Families deserve transparency, accountability, and practical cleanup solutions.

  • Independent water testing transparency and public reporting
  • Holding polluters accountable for cleanup costs
  • Supporting state and federal cleanup partnerships
  • Long-term health monitoring and community education
